Acute Onset of Pre-existing Conditions - Covered up to $10,000 (Not covered for residents of NH, NY, WA, MN, MO, MT, and OR).
The Diplomat International plan includes coverage for acute onset of a pre-existing condition for insured persons. If you are considering this plan, it is important to know what a pre-existing condition is first to better understand what the acute onset coverage offers.
Pre-existing Condition
Pre-existing Condition means an illness, disease, or other condition during the one hundred eighty (180) day period immediately prior to the Effective Date of Your Policy for which You, Your Traveling Companion, or a Family Member booked to travel with You:
- exhibited symptoms that would have caused a typical person to seek care or treatment; or
- received or received a recommendation for a test, examination, or medical treatment; or
- took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine.
Item (3) of this definition does not apply to a condition that is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the one hundred eighty (180) day period before the Effective Date of Your Policy.
Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition
Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition means a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-Existing Condition(s) which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning in the form of physical manifestations or symptoms, is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent care.
Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition does not include known, scheduled, required or expected medical care, drugs or treatments existent or necessary prior to the Scheduled Departure Date, or any sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-Existing Condition(s) which occurs prior to the Scheduled Departure Date.
The Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition must occur after Your Scheduled Departure Date. You must receive initial Necessary Treatment within twenty-four (24) hours of the Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition.
